Osprey, Martha Cove pioneers beach house-inspired apartment design.
A collaboration between Figurehead Group and Wolveridge Architects–Osprey is a boutique collection of architectural apartments, designed for the Peninsula.
Martha Cove
Marina Martha Cove situated at the base of Mount Martha on the stunning eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay adjoining the coastal town of Safety Beach, Martha Cove offers easy access to all the pleasures of the picturesque Mornington Peninsula. It also has direct water access to Port Phillip Bay and provide safe harbour for boats. Martha Cove Village is a celebration of the waterfront, capitalising on the amenity and activity of the established marina.
Lightwell breezeway entrances to every apartment
By modelling Osprey’s access to direct sunlight, Wolveridge Architects made considered adjustments to ensure living spaces are orientated to ensure a generosity of natural light – in many cases from two sides. The increase in available natural light to these homes will come as a surprise to many. Each dwelling is entered via a special ‘breezeway’ entry to provide a crossflow of fresh air, at the same time preserving security. Each breezeway fitout is customisable with options for bike racks, beach towel/coat racks and seating.

Embracing the Peninsula
Since the mid-20th century Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula emerged as Melbourne’s summer playground. As passenger boats made way for a dirt track that eventually formed the Nepean Highway, holidaying and spending time on the Peninsula became our rite of passage. The conceptual thinking behind the design of the Osprey beach homes aims to bring to life and evoke these and other memories on the Peninsula, enjoying the natural surroundings and salt air.

Figurehead Property
The Osprey building design had been predetermined as part of the overall Martha Cove development. As builder/developer, Figurehead had the safe option to construct as-is, moving straight ahead to town planning and construction. Committed to the best possible result for Osprey residents, Aperture engaged Wolveridge for consultation and a fresh take on what these homes could be. Positioned at the entry of the Martha Cove precinct, the Osprey location is the ‘gatehouse’ to the community, so it was important to Figurehead to get this right.

“The pleasures of enjoying life on the coast always come back to a few simple principles and, for the most part they are all linked with the idea of connecting ourselves to nature. Whether this is a view, a place in the sun, the smell of salty air, these are all things that improve our quality of life. And they can all happen from the comforts of a well-considered beach home. We all know that we feel better when we take a moment to tune into nature, when our senses come alive”
